Edith Flanigen
Edith Flanigen is a chemist who developed molecular sieves, crystal compounds that work as molecular strainers. her sieves allow oil refining safer and more efficient, and can also be used as catalysts for chemical reactions. They are also used in environmental cleaning and water purification. In addition, she helped developed synthetic emeralds, used in masers, the early version of the cutting laser.
I chose this chemist due to her numerous achievements. She has earned patients in the fields of petroleum research and product development, and has earned one of the nation's most distinguished honors in applied chemistry, the Perkin Medal. That made her the first woman ever to receive this award. In addition, she received the Lemelson-MIT Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.

Science
Who do I think of when I think Science? Well, I don't like to be cliched, but the answer's obvious, isn't it? Albert Einstein, of course. A great scientist, his contributions included his theory of relativity and also his hand in creating the hydrogen bomb which, while not an achievement to be proud of, must have taken a lot of knowledge to create. That in itself makes Einstein's achievements noteworthy. Most people's answers are probably going to be along these lines, but it is who most people think of.
